One Year to Build a Solid Foundation for a Future in Fashion.
A program designed to help aspiring fashion professionals steadily master the essential knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the industry.
At ESMOD Tokyo, students are given the opportunity to showcase their creations at fashion shows starting from their very first year.
Expanding on the Foundations to Master Advanced Techniques
In the second year, students build on the foundational knowledge acquired in the first year, applying it to the creation of more complex garments (tailored jackets etc.)
Through this process, they acquire the skills needed to handle a wide range of designs.
Students also deepen their understanding of the fashion industry through industry–academic collaboration projects and partnerships with companies, while gaining hands-on experience in creating practical collections from the perspective of building a brand.
From the second year, students may choose specialized tracks: in Stylisme, a Digital Fashion specialization using 3D design tools; in Modélisme, a Menswear specialization. (For details about specializations, please contact the school office.)
As part of industry–academic collaboration projects, students engage in every stage of a product’s lifecycle—from planning, design, patternmaking, merchandising, and production to PR, marketing, visual presentation, and sales.
They also participate in corporate collaborations, including projects related to SDGs and upcycling, gaining practical experience from concept development to commercialization.
From Student to Professional: Creating a Personal Brand
In the third year, students build on the skills and knowledge developed during their first and second years to produce their own collection as a personal brand.
Their work is evaluated through a jury presentation with industry professionals—including company representatives and designers—and showcased as both a graduation collection and a fashion show.
In addition, students create a commercial line aligned with the theme of their graduation collection, fostering a well-rounded understanding of the industry and cultivating the mindset of professionals ready to contribute immediately after graduation.
At ESMOD Tokyo, students also participate in an in-house recruitment jury, where they present their portfolio and works tailored to their desired brands. Many students secure job offers through this process.
For the graduation collection, students take full responsibility—not only for their creations but also for every aspect of the show: selecting the venue, arranging models, planning the show structure and direction, and managing operations on the day.
This comprehensive experience allows them to practice the entire process of planning and executing a fashion show, just as it is done by professional brands.
